Iggy Azalea threw a party for her meme coin MOTHER in Singapore last Friday following two crypto conferences in the region, and it rapidly received backlash on Crypto Twitter due to the event being full of scantily-clad women. But the Australian rapper has clapped back at critics.
“Crypto WILL have ass,” she proclaimed.
On Friday, a crowd of Crypto Twitter personalities, app builders, and millionaire traders attended the Motherland Rodeo Party, where Azalea hired 36 women to dance onstage and with attendees. While partygoers appeared to be enjoying themselves, based on the many shared photos, online onlookers slammed what they saw as the party's degeneracy.
“Oh you're abusing people, that's hilarious,” former SushiSwap CTO Joseph Delong sarcastically replied to a video of a party-goer dry-humping one of the hired dancers. “Set back crypto’s reputation by a decade or so,” another Twitter user responded to the clip, while others called the party “cringe” and “goofy” based on what they saw.
Now that the dust has settled from the controversial party, Azalea took a moment to hit back at the haters. Azalea says her goal was to cut through crypto’s “monotonous cycle of circle-jerking in empty clubs and calling them parties,” but fears she may have fallen short—saying that maybe more “ass” is needed.
“Thirty-year old virgins have developed a Stockholm syndrome of sorts. I have to dedicate more time and resources to see my mission through.” Azalea posted on Twitter, accompanied by a video from the party. “I will save you from them. Crypto WILL have ass. The baddies ARE coming. Mother will provide.”
Not everyone was upset with the party’s vibe, either. Outspoken BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes tagged the Australian musician on Twitter, writing, “Can you be my mother?” He added, “Time to trade some dogshit meme coins.”
It’s not just crypto personalities that were moved by the party, but investors too. Azalea’s MOTHER meme coin is up 56% since the party, according to CoinGecko, now at a market cap of $95 million. Even so, the Solana meme coin is still down 58% from a peak price set soon after launch back in June.
The price jump comes after the announcement that the rapper is launching an online casino that will use the MOTHER token. But this isn’t to be a simple crypto casino, as defined by Azalea, as it will blend in social elements by letting players interact with “beautiful women on camera while they play.”
